Funk

I kind of feel like I've been in a funk for oh, a month. I just feel blah and not normal. It's weird and I don't really know how to get out of it. Our life has been pretty boring since the holidays are over therefore our blog is boring too. :) But these are random things that have occupied my brain today:

-First time moms make me laugh. Not you Audj. The ones that have researched every single thing. I can't wait until all their pre-planned parenting blows up in their face when the kid actually gets here.

-I realized that I have taken my wedding ring off one time in over six years. Is that normal?

-Why is it when you most need sleep your kids decide to wake up 27 times throughout the night? How do they know?! They're like little evil torturous psychics or something.

-Something in our kitchen really smells. I can't figure out what it is.

Our Little Sunbeam

I'm pretty sure I never gave Emily permission to be old enough to become a Sunbeam. But she sure loves it!

Done for another year

We had a great Christmas! We had a Christmas Eve miracle when Robert got off work at about 4:30 instead of 8:00 like he was originally supposed to. :) So that was nice. We spent Christmas Eve at my brother and sister-in-laws house just hanging out. The kids played Chutes and Ladders and we watched Christmas Vacation. Grandma and Grandpa got the kids the book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" along with a Grinch and Max stuffed animal. Emily became weirdly obsessed with the Grinch this year so it was a fun surprise for her.

Once we got home Emily was super excited to open her jammies from Robert's parents. She was so willing to open Chase's as well. They looked super cute! Then it was time to put out the milk and cookies for Santa and get to bed.

Chase got fruit snacks in his stocking and pretty much didn't care about anything else.

How cute is this boy?! I just love him.

All of our various families came over throughout the day.

Emily got a Sleeping Beauty dress from Santa. When she opened it she said, "It's just what I wanted!" She was never very consistent with what she wanted from Santa. On Christmas Eve I asked her what she wanted Santa to bring her and she said a snowglobe. Huh?

Emily loved her easel.

Chase loved the boxes.

The day after Christmas we had a fun family dinner with Robert's family. We opened presents, read our letters from Robert's dad, and played the candy bar game. Cottrell family tradition! And of course we had to get a picture with all the cousins in their Christmas jammies!

We had a great Christmas but I would be lying if I said I was sad to see it go. I could not WAIT to take the tree down. I'm surprised it even made it to Christmas Day. The kids would just not leave it alone. It drove me crazy on a daily basis. :) I guess we'll see how next year goes. Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas From the Family

Have you ever heard the song "Merry Christmas From the Family"? I heard it for the first time probably five years ago when Robert heard it and said, "This is so your family!" I think there's probably a line in it that every family can relate to. Other than the drinking, I think everything applies to my family but the best one is "Fred and Rita drove from Harlingen, I can't remember how I'm kin to them." On one particular side of my family (love them!) at every family function there is bound to be someone that everyone is just thinking "Who the heck is that?" It makes me laugh. And the part about all the kids from different wives......yeah.

So anyway, Merry Christmas From the Family! We hope you all have a great holiday! We are so grateful for all of our friends and family that have blessed our lives. We are grateful for the gift of our Savior and the blessings that the gospel brings to our lives. We love you all!

Mom got drunk and Dad got drunk at our Christmas party
We were drinking champagne punch and homemade eggnog
Little sister brought her new boyfriend
He was a Mexican
We didn't know what to think of him until he sang
Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad

Brother Ken brought his kids with him
The three from his first wife Lynn
And the two identical twins from his second wife Mary Nell
Of course he brought his new wife Kay
Who talks all about AA
Chain smoking while the stereo plays Noel, Noel
The First Noel

Carve the Turkey
Turn the ball game on
It's margaritas when the eggnog's gone
Send somebody to the Quickpak Store
We need some ice and an extension cord
A can of bean dip and some Diet Rites
A box of Pampers, Marlboro Lights
Halelluja everybody say cheese
Merry Christmas from the family

Fred and Rita drove from Harlingen
I can't remember how I'm kin to them
But when they tried to plug their motor home in
They blew our Christmas lights
Cousin David knew just what went wrong
So we all waited out on our front lawn
He threw the breaker and the lights came on
And we sang Silent Night, Silent Night, Oh Holy Night

Carve the turkey turn the ball game on
It's Bloody Marys
Cause We All Want One!
Send somebody to the Stop 'N Go
We need some celery and a can of fake snow
A bag of lemons and some Diet Sprite
A box of Tampons, some Salem Lights
Halelluja, everybody say cheese
Merry Christmas from the Family

Feliz Navidad!

I wanted to post the video but it's got some scantily clad women randomly dancing so I decided not to. You can watch it here.

Proof

So I took the kids to Gardner Village last week. We were looking at the little elf displays (which were a little creepy and scared my kids) and came across this one. Santa's little helper checking the naughty and nice list.

Let's look a little closer at the naughty list.

What does that say? Right there near the top?

I knew it!

I just noticed as I was posting this that my mom's name is also on the naughty list. Is there something you need to tell us mom?

Festival of Trees

The whole fam (minus Robert of course, and Derek) went to Festival of Trees. My sister-in-law Kaybi helped decorate a tree so we all went to check it out. The tree was in memory of her friend Lisa's husband who passed away I think in 2007. He was in the Guard so it was a military themed tree with helicopters. They did such a great job! The picture doesn't do it justice.

There were so many amazing trees. I loved this cute little Mickey tree.

And of course Emily's favorite.

We took the kids to sit on Santa's lap while we were there. I was excited to get to cross that off my Christmas to-do list! They actually did really well. Emily was shy and wouldn't talk to him but she didn't cry. Chase was so tired that he really didn't care. And yes, I took a picture of the picture instead of walking into the next room to actually scan it. I am that lazy.

It was a super fun family activity! Thanks grandma and grandpa!
